Teen Drivers (Ages 16-19) experience more crashes during the summer break. Whether heading to the beach, driving to the movies with friends, or driving home after work; Teen accident rates jump 16%, compared to other times of the year.
Here Are Some Tips To Consider:
- Texting and otherwise interracting with phones jumps during this time. This is extremely dangerous behavior.
- 55% of teens text every day, sending almost 100 messages daily. Talk with teens about safe texting practices.
- Distractions aren't just electronic devices- passengers are also a major distraction for drivers. Restricting trips that include friends, siblings, and other youngsters is advisable.
- Practice what you preach! Are you guilty of texting, dialing, checking directions, or changing streaming radio stations while driving? Young drivers see this behavior, they will think it is normal- even if told otherwise.
